Resources and Environmental Policy Research Institute was found in 2000, which is formerly known as Institute of Ecological Environment Tourism Resources. It is one of the subordinates of Regional Geological Survey Team and also the standing body of Sichuan Geopark and Geological Relics Survey and Assessment Center. Currently, it mainly engages in the survey and evaluation of geoparks and geological relics, environment and tourism resources, environment geology and hydrogeology, agro-geology and urban geology.

As the standing body of Sichuan Geopark and Geological Relics Survey and Assessment Center, the Resources and Environmental Policy Research Institute undertakes specific works implementation for the center can has accomplished survey, evaluation, planning, design and construction for a large number of world-class, national and provincial geological relics and geoparks in Sichuan, Chongqing, Xinjiang, Tibet, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Qinghai, Hebei and Guangdong, which provided important technical support and demonstration and application platform for the research of tourism earth-science development in China and preparation of industry standards for geoparks and geological relics industry.

In terms of ecological environment and tourism resources, the Institute performs ecological environment, tourism resources investigation, evaluation and planning for world heritage sites, world human and biosphere reserve, tourist attractions, national natural reserve and national forest parks. It undertook ecological environment and tourism resources survey and evaluation in such attractions as Daocheng County, Minya Konka, Jiuding Mountain and Mengtun River Valley, Lixian in Sichuan Province, and completed the such projects as Overall Planning for Yading National Nature Reserve, Resources Background Survey in Yading National Nature Reserve, Overall Planning for Minya Konka National Key Scenic Area, Project Design for Post-disaster Ecological Restoration of Sponge Organic Reef Provincial Nature Reserve in Jushui, Anxian County etc. and such provincial key research subjects as Research of Overall Planning of Sichuan Provincial Eco-function Reserve and Comprehensive Research of Eco-environment Construction in Jiuzhai Valley- Huanglong and Upper Reaches of the Minjiang River. In addition, it also undertook such tourism planning projects as overall planning for tourism development in Mianzhu, Sichuan and overall planning of tourism development of Xingjing County and tourism development planning in Qingping Township, Mianzhu City.

In terms of ecological geology, environmental geology and hydrogeology, the Environment Resource Survey Institute undertook the ecological geological investigation project for some places issued by Ministry of Land and Resources such as 1:50000 Jiuzhaigou Valley, Huanglong, Muni Valley and Four Girls Mountain, completed the research subject Geothermal Resource Investigation of Daocheng County of Sichuan Development and Reform Commission, the key research project Geological and Water Circulation System Research of Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong World Natural Heritage Sites and Research on Landscape and Ecological Environment Evolution of Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong of Science & Technology Department of Sichuan Province, designed Jiuzhaigou Tourist Center History Building, Jiuzhaigou Water Circulation Model, Jiuzhaigou Natural Reserve Sand Plate Model, Sichuan Science and Technology Museum Jiuzhai-Huanglong Exhibition Area, etc., and presided over the Geological Environment Investigation on Jiuzhai-Huanglong Core Scenic Area subordinated to the key technological application project Integrated Application Study on Sustainable Development of Water Resource and Geological Environment of Jiuzhai-Huanglong Core Scenic Area which obtained the First Prize” in Science and Technology Progress Award of Sichuan (2007) during the 11th Five Year Plan of Sichuan Province. It undertook the geological data production project for comprehensive geological environmental information system of Chengdu and participated in geological environmental information system and 3D model construction of Chengdu. In addition, it performed the design for geological environment restoration and governance project for Sichuan Dunbar Muscovite Mine, Sichuan Jiayang Coal Mine, etc.

In terms of agricultural geology and urban geology, the Environment Resource Survey Institute participated in multi-objective geochemistry investigation (round 1) of Chengdu, agricultural geological investigation on first and second batches of Sichuan Golden Land Project such as Shuangliu County and Emeishan City and made its own contributions to urban development and consolidation of Sichuan Province.
