The Regional Geological Survey Party is one of the branches of Sichuan Bureau of Geology Exploration and Exploitation of Mineral Resources( “SBGMR” abb.). SBGMR was founded in 1956, and now it has over 30 subordinate units with about 25 000 employees, the 30 teams of Sichuan Bureau of Geology Exploration have already been united as one and continuously carried out works in both domestic and abroad.
As a highly competent professional prospecting force, the Bureau has made great contribution to the economic development of Sichuan Province.
1. Geological exploration
Over 130 kinds of minerals have been discovered and more than 90 kinds with proved reserves, of which the retained reserves of 38 kinds rank top 5 in China. The Bureau has submitted more than 6 000 geological reports and discovered over 1 500 ore districts. 803 scientific research projects have been accomplished by the Bureau and won 318 prizes at national and provincial level. In order to implement the Chinese Western Development Strategy, the Bureau has recommended ten mineral resources development bases.
2. Hydrogeological investigation, engineering and environmental geological survey
The Bureau has completed a great many key projects including the investigation and survey for Xichang Rocket Launching Base, Three Gorges Project and West-East Natural Gas Transmission etc. Some civil projects have also been successfully accomplished by the Bureau, such as Water Exploration Project in red stratum region, and investigation on underground water in Kashin-Beck Disease emerging areas. The Bureau has also played a very important role in the earthquake relief efforts.
3. International cooperation
Based on the mineral resources advantages, the Bureau has been actively cooperating with both domestic and international institutions and mining companies, including Anglo Platinum, Barrick, BHP, Newmont, Inco, Phelps Dodge, De Beers in exploring for natural gas, gold, copper, PGE metals etc. In the meantime, focused on Africa and Southeast Asia, Bureau has also conducted exploration in foreign countries. The products of Bureau’s subordinate Chengdu Prospecting Machinery Factory enjoy good reputation in the international market.
As the top force of SBGMR, The Regional Geological Survey Party, established in 1959, The Party has passed the GB/T 19001-2008-ISO 9001:2008 quality management system certification, GB/T 24001-2004 - ISO 14001:2004 environmental management system certification and GB/T 28001-2011 / OHSAS 18001:2007 occupational health and safety management system certification. The qualifications which the team owns include Regional Geological Survey (Class A), Solid Mineral Exploration (Class A), Liquid Mineral Exploration (Class B), Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology, Environmental Geology Survey (Class B), Geochemical Exploration (Class B), Geological Pitting (Class B), Geological Test (Identification of Rock and Minerals; Detection of Rock and Minerals, Ore Processing Test) (Class C), Geological Drilling(Class C), Geological Disaster risk assessment (Class A), Geological Disaster Control Project Exploration (Class A), Geological Disaster Control Project Design (Class A), Geological Disaster Control Project Construction (Class B), Surveying and Mapping (Class A), the Formulation of Land consolidation exploitation and utilization. The Party owns enough professional and technical personnel and mechanical equipment relevant to those qualifications. Now we have 431 employees, including 245 senior, intermediate and junior technicians on regional geological survey, mineral prospecting, geophysics, geochemistry survey, hydro-geological, engineering geological and environmental geological survey, remote sensing geology, rock ore testing, mapping, computer technology, geological experiment measurement, 9 professional senior engineers, 36 senior engineers, 124 engineers. Production equipment and facilities are complete.
We have successfully completed 178 geological and mineral geological survey maps(1:1000000,1:250000,1:50000) assigned by the state. 9 geochemical survey maps (1:200000) associating with 10 maps of strategic mineral resources prospective investigation (1:50000);16 follow-up geochemical survey and mineral base investigation projects, 5 mineral resources potential evolution projects, and more than 20 important commercial prospecting projects of mineral sites. It has successfully completed more than one hundred maps of regional survey and mineral geological survey, regional geochemistry survey assigned by the state with accumulated area of more than 1 million km2, covering Sichuan, Chongqing, Tibet, Yunnan, Qinghai, Sinkiang, Laos etc . Many of these maps won Ministry Excellent Map Award and Ministry Prospecting Achievement Award. The brigade has successively won over 40 items of national, ministry and provincial science and technology achievement awards. Important achievements are as following: Regional Geology of Sichuan Province, Regional Stratigraphy of Nujiang River, Lantsang River and Jinsha River, Stratigraphy(Lithostratic) of Sichuan Province, Summary of Sichuan Minerals, Sichuan’s Stratum Database, General Planning and Research of Sichuan’s Geological Relics Protection and Geopark Development & Construction, General Planning of Weiyuan’s Mineral Resources, Special Report on the Geological Environment Survey of Jiuzhai & Huanglong’s Core Scenic Spots, etc.. Our fundamental data is enveloped with markedly pragmatic value in all sides of our society.
The brigade is on the front rank in mineral resource prospecting and potential estimating. It possesses double first-class qualifications on solid mineral prospecting and regional geological survey, and was ever awarded the title of ‘Exploit Unit in Mineral Prospecting’ in the year of 1993. The brigade has successively found over 1000 ore deposits and mineral occurrences, in which many super-large and large scale ore deposits have played important roles in economic growth of the country, such as Baiyu’s Silver-polymetallic Deposit, Batang Cuomolong-hailong Tin-polymetallic Deposit, Songpan Dongbeizhai Gold Deposit, Muli Erze Gold Deposit, Baoxing marble Deposit, Tibet’s Basu-Songzong rich Zinc Deposit, Muli Suoluogou Gold Deposit and Sinkiang Dishui Copper Deposit, Dechenongba Lithium Deposit, etc., providing an important mineral resource guarantee for the economic construction. At present, we have established relationship of advantage contemplation with many domestic famous enterprises, like Sichuan Fazhan (Group ) Co., Ltd., Fujian Zijin investment Co.,Ltd., Beijing Jinyang Mining Investment Co., Ltd., Sichuan Kaiyuan (Group) Co.,Ltd., Sichuan Tianyi Metallurgy Group, etc..
